Absolute Essence
An Analysis of Ancient Gold Walnut on Ancient Gold. In this work, the artist embraces the path of precious monochromatism. Ancient Gold is more than just a color: it is a declaration of persistence, nobility, and indestructible unity.
Chromatic Symbolism: The Metal of Time
Ancient Gold (The Experienced Essence): Unlike bright, new gold, ancient gold possesses a patina. It represents an essence that has passed through the trials of life and emerged not only intact, but enriched. It is wisdom that does not need to glitter to command attention; it is a dense, deep light that emanates authority.
Tone-on-Tone (Non-Dual Unity): When the object (the Walnut) and the background share the exact same hue, the boundary between the individual and the whole becomes thin. This represents the state of Samadhi or enlightenment, where one understands that the inner Essence is made of the very same substance as the universal Essence.
Materiality: The distinction between the Walnut and its background relies solely on form and light. This suggests that the Essence distinguishes itself from the world not through “color” or “nature,” but through “awareness” and “shape.”
Philosophical Perspective: Atman and Brahman
This variation answers the question “How much have you lived in your essence?” through the concept of the Return to the Source.
The Beginning and the End: It represents the stage of alchemical “Philosophical Gold” reached in its eternal stasis. To live in the essence here means to have removed all conflict. There is nothing left to prove, nothing to fight (as in the silver on red), and nothing to hide (as in the black).
Indestructibility: Ancient gold does not oxidize. It tells us that our true essence is outside of time, eternal and immutable, despite the superficial changes of body and mind.
Jungian Psychology: The Total Self
Through a Jungian lens, this work represents the Self having integrated all opposites. Light and shadow have merged into a warm, bronzed-golden tone. It signifies the achievement of psychic maturity, where the individual recognizes themselves as part of the sacred “golden fabric” of reality.
The Temple of Silence: A Narrative Meditation
Imagine entering a secret chamber carved into the heart of a sacred mountain. The walls, the ceiling, the floor, everything is lined with ancient gold. There is no external light, yet the room emanates a golden warmth that seems to breathe from the walls themselves. It is a place where time stopped thousands of years ago.
At the center of this room, resting upon an invisible altar, lies the Walnut. It is of the same gold as the walls. It almost feels as if the Walnut is about to dissolve into the background, or as if the background is condensing into the Walnut.
This variation speaks to us in moments of spiritual communion. It reminds us that we are never alone or separate: we are waves made of the same water as the golden ocean of life.
The “seed seeking answers” has found the ultimate response here: “I am That.” Sprouting, in this state, is no longer a movement upward or outward. It is an expansion of pure consciousness. The sprout does not need to break the shell to find the light, for the light is already everywhere, inside and out.
This work, in this form, is for the wise, the contemplative, and those who have found peace. It is for those who know that living in one’s essence simply means To Be.
To the question “How much have you lived in your essence?”, this piece offers a silent, total answer: “You have always been in your essence; you only had to realize it.”
Living in the essence, here, means being Present Eternity. It is Essence as Sacred Unity.
